POPULAR USES
ANDIROBA oil is one of the most sold medicinal oils in the Amazon. Mixed with honey and copaiba it is a very popular anti-inflammatory medication to combat throat infections in general. It also strengthens and embellishes the hair and in the form of soap acts as a remedy to combat acne and pimples. Due to its good skin penetration, it is often used in massage to relieve bruises, dislocations and acts also to soothe the skin surface and bleach superficial stains.
The oil of PRACAXI, which is extracted in a rudimentary way through cooking the dry mass and macerating it in a mortar, is popularly used against skin infection, as well as in the treatment of hair, which leaves it easier to comb and intensifies its brightness, avoiding hair loss.
Pracaxi bio-oil use was common to treat stretch marks in adolescences and pregnant with very satisfactory results. The inhabitants of the Amazon region make use of the stem bark to combat the effects of poison from snake and scorpion bites. For this, the bark is soaked and applied in the form of a plaster on the site of the bite. Today the seeds are collected in rivers, streams, and beaches, sun-dried, and stored for selling.
The Brazil Nut oil (Bertholletia excelsa) is highly nutritious, containing 75% unsaturated fatty acids composed mainly by palmitic, oleic and linolenic, as well as the phytosterols sitosterol and the fat-soluble vitamins A and E. An extra virgin oil can be obtained by the first pressing which can replace the olive oil for its mild and pleasant flavor.
The brazil nut is a source rich in magnesium, thiamine and has the highest known concentrations of selenium (126 ppm), with antioxidant properties. Some studies indicate that consumption of selenium is associated with a reduction in the risk of prostate cancer and recommends the consumption of almonds as a preventive measure.
The present proteins are very rich in sulfur amino acids like cysteine (8%) and methionine (18%) and the presence of this amino acid (methionine) enhances the absorption of selenium and other minerals.
Due to its anti-free radicals, antioxidants and moisturizing properties, the cosmetic industry uses the brazil nut oil in anti-aging formulations in preventing aging of the skin and is considered one of the best conditioners for damaged and dehydrated hair.
The Acai oil (Euterpe oleracea) represents a new cosmetic ingredient, originates from the Amazon forest, which provides many benefits to maintaining the cutaneous balance. Its structure is mainly composed of anthocyanins, phytosterols, essential fatty acids (EFAs). The profile of fatty acids in the acai oil qualifies it as a special edible oil, mainly due to linoleic acid (Omega 6) and oleic acid (Omega 9), and presents in its composition, predominantly, monounsaturated fatty acids (up to 61% ) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (up to 10.6%), both recommended for prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Among the phytosterols present in the acai oil are the beta-sitosterol, the stigmasterol, and the campesterol, which are widely used by the cosmetic industry as a preventive of skin aging by promoting cellular metabolism and reduction of inflammation.
It is no coincidence that the color of the acai is similar to that of red wine. Responsible for the color are the anthocyanins, an antioxidant substance that helps to fight cholesterol and free radicals. However, the acai has up to 33 times more anthocyanins than grape oil.
ECOLOGY
The rainforest is still destroyed for short term profits – for unsustainable timber exploration and slash-and- -burn activities for low valuable cash cropping and cattle farming. A highly promising alternative is the purchase of non-timber products such as seeds and fruits. The collection of the seeds is carried out with the involvement of the local forest communities cultivating partnerships driven by fairness, transparence, respect, and ethics. Thus, we can assure that the sourcing practices are in strict compliance with the respect of traditional knowledge, for the environment, and guarantee its full traceability. Nativilis advocates the preservation of the Amazonian Rainforest by promoting the use and creating consumer markets for these sustainable and renewable rainforest resources, which contribute to poverty alleviation and local development. DISCOVER RAINFOREST SPECIALITIES FOR HAIRCARE
VITALIZING HAIR CARE WITH VEGETABLE OILS
Many skin care trends are coming into the world of hair care. One of them is the demand for natural ingredients. Natural oils, butters, and waxes commonly soften and condition the hair, giving it healthy shine. Adding oil to hair care products protect the fibres against moisture loss from within, increases the strength of hair since it maintains hydration to keep it from becoming brittle and breaking. Application of oil lubricates hair and reduces the force required to comb, thereby preventing breakage. Oils can repair hair when chemical and mechanical hair treatments are used, such as colouring, relaxing, curling, straightening, etc. Indeed, consistent hair oiling prevents the loss of protein from chemically treated hair, helping to maintain its thickness and tensile strength even after chemical treatment. Hair oils even meet the latest demand for anti-pollution protection as they coat the hair shaft and thereby act as a barrier to pollutants such as dirt, dust, UV rays, etc., which can damage hair. Oils have shown to speed hair growth and, in some cases, treat baldness. They supply the hair scalp with moisture, which maintains its heath and, in turn, the health of hair. Oils also provide essential nutrients required to maintain the normal functioning of sebaceous glands, which further promotes hair growth. Nativilis presents new specialties for HAIR CARE, all based on Amazonian rainforest products.
